Ep. 52 - Kimberly Aya - Fun Cakes
FunCakes was the results of Kimberly Aya's dream of just "wanting to make a lot of cakes".
While attending a Bridal Show, brides were asking if they could "rent" her display cakes. Kimberly realized what a great idea this was, and CakeRental.com was born.
It has been a 13 year journey so far with so many awesome cakes made along the way. Shark Tank was definitely a highlight, along with making the cake for The Hangover Movie and making 365 cakes in 4 weeks for MAC Cosmetics Nationwide.
"COVID has impacted our business a lot because no one is getting married, and if they do it's a very small private wedding."

FunCakes offers large tiered Wedding/Quinceanra/Party cakes at the fraction of the cost. Our cakes are faux cakes: the outside is real fondant (so it looks like the real deal) and the inside in Styrofoam.
Each cake has a section on the bottom tier, in the back, where real cake can be placed under the fondant. This way the cake can still be cut and fed to the bride and groom. Then the FunCake goes to the back and fresh sheet cakes are waiting to feed the guests — allowing brides to that big, gorgeous cake at the fraction of the cost. We also make a lot of cakes for photo shoots, movies and store displays. Our cakes will last years and the only damage will be dust.
